Beats by Dre Studio VS Soul by Ludacris SL300 Headphones

Things have changed a lot since I was young…er. Back then, you would just listen to music on your CD player. The foam from your headphones would be falling off and you didn’t care. The only aesthetic appeal it offered was a perfect location to place stickers. But the importance of looks isn’t all that’s changed. The desired sound has too. Today it’s not about clarity or sound purity. Hell, it’s not even about listening to music anymore. It’s about feeling it with some heavy bass, and this is something both Soul and Beats headphones looked to capitalize on.

Looks

Both sets of headphones look great on and off your ear. They’re sleek, stylish, and come in a variety of cool colors. It’s clear that they were both designed with a pinch of vanity in mind, but when it comes to the latest head accessory, this is no unfortunate result. The one thing the SL300s have over the Beats by Dre Studio headphones is their light-up capability, which is, how shall I say it, NICE.
Sound
Like I said in my opening, both Soul and Beats focus on bass when constructing their headphones. Fortunately, they deliver on your expectations with some intense yet not overpowering bass.Sound clarity is not quite up to far, however. But this should be no surprise to those familiar with these kind of sets. There are a few things that set their sound capabilities apart. First, the Soul headphones tend to leak music, whereas the Beats are better prepared to keep your listening sessions private. Where the Beats stumble when compared to the Ludacris headphones is in their noise-cancelling ability. Soul simply works better in this area.

Comfort

What’s the first thing you notice when you hop into the sports car you’d been dying to test drive? Usually, it’s not very comfortable. That’s exactly my problem with the Dr. Dre headphones. They’re too heavy and the earpads feel uncomfortable halfway through long listening sessions. In comparison, the Soul headphones are a pleasure to wear, surprisingly lightweight for their bulky design and bolstered by some of the most comfortable earpads you’ve even worn, you won’t notice these babies even hours into your favorite playlists.

Cost

The Beats will cost you $299.95, like most other high-end headphones. Ludacris’ headphones only retail for $229. Let’s pause here for a sec. As of now, the SL300s have already won the price war. However, if you search the Internet and happened to end up in Walmart’s online store, you’ll see that this competition quickly becomes a blowout. Here, the SL300s will only cost you $129. I know this probably won’t make sense, but it’s Friday and I’ve chosen to give in to my whimsy: Boom go the savings!

Which Is Best?

I know that everyone L.O.V.E.S. loves the Beats, but after comparing these two sets of headphones, I’m not afraid to admit I prefer the Soul SL300s. They’re cheaper, more comfortable, offer better noise-cancelling technology, and they look just as stylish. It’s a no-brainer.
