  • I have a new 15" MacBook Pro 2018 running Mojave 10.14.1. Battery status is shown in the menu bar with percentage. Problem is, the percentage is always 100%, even though in the Energy Saver prefs pane it says the battery power is less than 100% (like 80%). The percentage in the prefs decrements as the battery drains, as expected, but the percentage in the menu bar is stuck at 100%.

I tried resetting the SMU by shutting down, holding the power button down for 10 seconds, waiting a few seconds, then restarting. I also tried the other reset procedure where you hold down right shift, left option, left control, and the power button.

Funny thing is, after resetting the SMU and restarting, the battery indicator and percentage appear on the top right during the restart process with the correct percentage, but after the boot and when I'm signed in and back to the desktop, the menu bar battery status is back to 100%.

Any ideas how to fix this?

  • It seems battery control chip reporting wrong values. You may think to consider apple support.
